Yay! It's your birthday and we love you <3
28 wonderful years ago, my AlexBear was born to this world!! I couldn't be any thankful that this happened, otherwise I would've probably had a very different life. I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world!
This birthday celebration tho, sure is full of a lot uncertain preparations and plans! Every year I try to make his birthdays special and surprise AlexBear with something relatively new or fun. On his first birthday that we were together, I did an amazing race. The next year I had him some really fun gifts. On the third year, I got him a hat and some items on his wish list.
Hmmm... wrong move!
Note to self: Never follow the wish list. Apparently that was not memorable at all and fell off my achievements of being a thoughtful HoneyBear so I vowed to make every year memorable! I have not failed my Anniversary surprises tho, so I was making sure this year and the following more is going to be nice.
It's hard to get gifts for guys tho - either it's simple and they have most of the things they want OR it's really expensive! The Planning
I've been planning this birthday since December. I need a good idea of what to do. I've wanted to go on a local cruise with On the Loos Cruises on our anniversary on the Fox River but it's too late in the year so I figured, hmmm let's do this on his birthday! As soon as the company started taking bookings, I immediately booked for May 17th! Perfect it's on his actual birthday!!
So what more can I do on this day? So a sunset cruise and have dinner/snacks on the boat... and a cake! Of course I'm gonna have a nice cake done! Around February, one of the girls at work went to a local Cake shop - Tamara the Cake Guru (aka Tamara's Cupcakes) and asked if we wanted to place some orders. I got some cupcakes and OMG they are heavenly!! Funny thing is, I wasn't even planning on it but I saw their unicorn cookies and I was sold. That's it... I'm getting some! Best $3-$4 a pop ever.
That being said, I got a cake made for my Bear from Tamara's Cupcakes because I was sure he's gonna love it! I called up Tamara's and I figured I'll go in the store and talk about my idea of the cake and the cost instead of over the phone or emails.
Now, take note that right now we only have one car - which meant that AlexBear and I usually rode together to work. When the weather is nice, then he takes one of his motorcycles. May's weather was pretty unpredictable so it was hard to find a day when I can just go there without him noticing. We pretty much have a routine, believe or not we do almost everything together. Finally I found a day when we were riding to work separately! Everything's falling into place, but I had to figure out how to bring it to the cruise. See, I wasn't telling Alex we're going on a cruise and have dinner or something. He's supposed to get just a birthday card with instructions and an address. It's going to point to Beckett's - another restaurant by the river. At this point he may think we're gonna eat out by Beckett's when we're really just going to park there. I scheduled for the cake to be delivered at the cruise location on the 17th. I also coordinated with the cruise folks about it. That's a month out so perfect! All set. Well darn the weather
The cake plan was going great, the weather - not so much. As we approached the 17th the storms and winds just seem to be getting worse. I have been speaking with the manager of On the Loos Cruises about our booking and it wasn't looking good.
It's the 17th - the show must go on
Despite all efforts and lots of rain dances, the cruise was cancelled and I needed a quick back up plan. What to do!? Where to go!? The plan to go on the cruise seemed so much fun!!
Last minute reservation! So I had to figure something out last minute, I was so undecided. AlexBear loves beer. So let's find a better thing to do on a quite windy Saturday! I was looking around Facebook and online, and stumbled upon Fratello's/Fox River Brewing Company. Okay that's it! Happy Bear
AlexBear got his card... and off we went. Drove to this address (and as soon as he saw the street he knew anyway lol). Hooray!!!
Great food and great beer!
I have to admit, I got preoccupied in the moment that I didn't take more photos. As much as I love blogging, I also love enjoying the time with family so I put my phone down and had a great conversation and nom noms with my Bear.
Now for the fun part - desert. We already ate so much at this point... do we need more?
AlexBear looked at me and the menu... hmmm maybe some cake? He wasn't sure.
Frozen custard actually sounds better! Maybe we should go to a Frozen Custard shop instead. I nodded, sure! But I have to go potty first. I ran to the front desk which thankfully is where the bathrooms are so it wasn't weird if I went towards a different direction. Told them to bring out the cake and the sparklers! No songs, Alex hates that LOL. As we asked for the tab and prepared to leave... cake is served!
I had a proud wife moment, the look on his face was priceless. I also wasn't able to photograph the whole thing because I was holding his hand and looking into his eyes. I know he was one happy husband.
I held his had and kissed him. His life is full of ups and downs, and I know the last few years we had together has been amazing. I'm hoping to give him more exciting celebrations and I might just make a bear cake a tradition. This is actually his 2nd bear cake :)
I sure love this man!
